Forsythe Atlantic Foursome On Pace In Edmonton
EDMONTON, Alberta, Canada -- Friday, July 21, 2006 -- The Atlantic cars were flying around City Centre Airport today in Edmonton as the first round of Qualifying for Sunday's West Edmonton Mall Grand Prix Presented by The Brick Atlantic Race took place on the runways of JAGflo Speedway. The four-car Forsythe Atlantic Team was well represented in the final results, led by James Hinchcliffe who claimed second on the Provisional Grid.
James Hinchcliffe
"We've had one of those good days where the cars were fast right off the transporters and that shows in the results we had. The #3 Emexis car was hooked up right from the start and we really had a shot at pole. We made a small change and it was fast, fast, fast. Unfortunately the Red Flag came out with a few minutes to go and I think there was still quite a bit of time to be had, but with just a tiny bit of luck in tomorrow's Final Qualifying we should be right there. It would be mega to get my first pole here in Canada!"
Andreas Wirth
"The Red Flag came out at exactly the wrong time -- very frustrating. I was quickest in the morning practice by a good margin and I think the Provisonal Pole was mine to be grabbed, but it seemed like we lost something when we went to new tires. The balance was just a bit off and the Red came out so we didn't have a chance to make a change and go faster. But we're right there and I'm very optimistic for the final session tomorrow. I had some bad luck in Cleveland and Toronto so I need to have some good luck now!"
Richard Philippe
"I'm very happy with the car but for some reason it's taking us a long time to get the tires to come up to the proper temperature and pressure. With all the Red Flags we've been having this year it's important to put in a fast lap early in each stint and I just wasn't able to do that today before the incident that stopped the session. So we need to work on that issue a bit, but the car is fast and balanced and when there's just one little piece of the puzzle missing it's good!"
Leonardo Maia
"The Layer 7 car was good, but I kept backing up and backing up looking for some space on the track. Every time I backed up there were more cars! I was in the wrong place at the wrong time that whole session, but the guys are putting a really good car on the track this weekend and it's up to me to find some space and lay down the kind of lap it's capable of. Tomorrow I think we'll be in good shape and I can't wait to get out there again!"
