Red Bull Team Forsythe Starts Strong in Edmonton
EDMONTON, Alberta -- Friday, July 20, 2007 -- Every Champ Car Atlantic team hopes to come off the transporter and run strong in the first session of the weekend. Today in Edmonton, Red Bull Team Forsythe drivers Robert Wickens and John Edwards found pace right away as they recorded the third and fifth quickest times out of 23 cars in the morning practice. But traffic woes, rapidly increasing track temperatures and a costly red flag caused frustration in this afternoon's qualifying session as the two were relegated to the fifth and sixth rows on the grid for Saturday's Race 1 of a doubleheader weekend in Alberta. Coming off a strong event two weeks ago in Toronto and with cars that are very competitive this weekend, the teenage duo remain upbeat.
John Edwards
Qualified 10th
"We were right there this morning but the track heated up quite a bit this afternoon and I had a hard time keeping the rear of the car planted. This track has some very fast corners and when the back end goes loose it's not a good feeling. We made some steps in the right direction but I had a hard time finding space on the track. I'd be on a quick lap and catch traffic, quick lap and catch traffic -- just very disappointing. When the red flag came out with eight minutes left I thought it might be just perfect since we are at the head of pit lane and would be able to come out with clear track, but the red seemed like it lasted forever and we didn't have enough time to get the Coopers up to full pressure. If we'd had two more minutes it might have been different but we're only a few tenths off and I know we'll have a good race car."
Robert Wickens
Qualified 11th
"I think that might have been the single most frustrating qualifying session ever! No matter how much I slowed down or tried to find space somebody in front of me would be backing up also. This track is so fast that if somebody backs off a little bit all of a sudden they're right in front of you. I even came into the pits at one point just trying to find space! A red flag can be a bit of an advantage when the team has a good pit position like we did today, but the red lasted just a few minutes too long and we just didn't quite have enough time to put in a quick lap."
Qualifying for Race 2 of this doubleheader weekend gets underway at 8am local/MT (10am ET, 14:00 UTC). Race 1 gets the green flag Saturday at 12:30pm local/MT (2:30pm ET, 18:30 UTC), while Race 2 will get underway on Sunday at 10:30am local/MT (12:30pm ET, 16:30 UTC). Both exciting races can be watched live on ESPN360.com.
