REVERSAL OF FINISHING POSITIONS FOR LAZZARO, TAGLIANI AT ROAD AMERICA
After reviewing videotape of the race, CART stewards ruled at a meeting Sunday night following the Round 6 KOOL/Toyota Atlantic Championship race at Road America on July 11 that PPI driver Anthony Lazzaro passed Player's-Forsythe driver Alex Tagliani under a stationary yellow caution flag on the front straight during Sunday's race. Lazzaro finished third, followed by Tagliani in fourth, at the checkered flag, but the ruling of the stewards reversed the finishing order of those two drivers.
Tagliani was moved up into third place, with Lazzaro moving back to fourth place. Tagliani was awarded 14 points for third place and Lazzaro received 12 points for fourth place.
With the ruling, Lazzaro continues to lead the championship with 97 points. Buddy Rice remains in second with 74 points, while Tagliani is in third with 72 points.
PPI has until 5 p.m. (ET) on Wednesday, July 14, to appeal the stewards' decision.
