Gelles prepared for Two Countries
Champ Car Atlantic in Monterrey -- BMW USA at Mid-Ohio
Gelles Racing starts season in Formula BMW USA
Front Royal, May 16th, 2006. -- Gelles Racing will race in two different countries this weekend when the Formula BMW USA squadron will head to Mid-Ohio for the start of the season while the Champ Car Atlantic crew have rolled into Monterrey, Mexico for the third round of the season. The pre-season testing has been very successful for the six young drivers that enter the 14-round championship that will take them across the United States and Canada over the next five months. Meanwhile, Robbie Pecorari and Stephen Simpson are recovering from a tough weekend in Houston and anticipate they will turn the tables around at Fundidora Park in our only visit south of the Rio Grande.
"This is the first weekend where our troops will race in different venues, states team owner Bob Gelles. We have been preparing for months with our young guns in Formula BMW USA; we have proven without a doubt we were the team best prepared with drivers that took to the track with quick machines and topped the charts all winter and spring as they improved their skills and lap times. Now everybody is ready for both Mid-Ohio rounds and we know we will are up to the task. Meanwhile, our Champ Car Atlantic team will finally come together in Mexico after race incidents in Houston shed some shadow to what could have been Top Five places in this extremely competitive series traversing North America. Gelles drivers Pecorari and Simpson belong with the best in the Atlantic roster."
Marco Tischer joins Gelles BMW staff
Gelles Racing is delighted to announce that engineer - chief mechanic Marco Tischer will join Gelles Racing this season. Regarded as one of the best in the field, Tischer was instrumental in preparing the FB02 machine for Formula BMW World Champion Marco Holzer in 2005; he will supervise primarily Canadian rising star Maxime Pelletier's single seater. By the same token, veteran driver coach Claude Bourbonnais will join the team commencing at Mid-Ohio.
Crew chief Martin Lastreto will have our BMW cars ready for the last testing day this Thursday in Lexington while Atlantic crew chief Geoff Bushor sets for Mexico with revised Mazda powered-Swift 016a cars.
