Barber Dodge Pro Series racer Ryan Hunter-Reay recently completed a two-day test with the 2002 Toyota Atlantic Championship Team, Hylton Motorsports in Buttonwillow, California. The test, which took place in a brand new Swift .014A, was Hunter-Reay's first run in a Toyota Atlantic car. The Hylton crew prepped the car in a very short time, setting up a trouble-free ride for the Floridian over the two days of testing.

The first day was set-aside for installation laps, breaking in the equipment and getting a read on the new chassis. By the end of day one, Hunter-Reay had logged just over 100 miles in the new Swift and the Hylton crew prepared the car for their first real test session of the 2002 season.

Hunter-Reay and team returned to the track the following day to find temperatures below freezing, which briefly delayed team plans. It took over 20 laps just to get a fair amount of heat into the tires. But soonafter, the sun was out and the track temperatures were on the rise. Lap times continued to drop as the Floridian became accustomed to the driving style required by the Swift.

"This was by far the best all around test I have had this off-season." said an ebullent Hunter-Reay. "I would absolutely love to race with this team next season and I hope everything gets sorted to allow that to happen. The professionalism demonstrated by Hylton Motorsports is truly astounding and explains why they dominated the 2001 season with 11 of 12 races finishing on the podium. Every single member of the team exhibited the greatest attitude, it is clear they really love what they do. I believe I adapted to the new Atlantic car very well and at an accelerated pace.

The 2000 Barber Dodge Pro Series Rookie of the Year went on to say. "The first day was a 'shakedown' day, but we got right down to serious business on the second day and accomplished much more than we had expected. I was quite pleased with the time that we turned, but the car is still very new to me as is the track. I left feeling very confident in our abilities as a team. I am privileged to have had this opportunity to test with such a great team. My efforts will now be focused on driving the #1 Hylton car for the 2002 season and defending the title that this team has earned".
