Team Australia's Simon Pagenaud has cemented himself in second place of the Champ Car Atlantic Series after another podium finish in Monterrey, Mexico today.

Pagenaud was quickest in the morning warm-up, but did not have the speed of evntaul race winner Graham Rahal and had to settle for the second step on the podium. Rahal, 17, and the son of the famous Champ Car Chamoion Bobby Rahal, became the youngest ever winner in the 33-year history of the championship -- and did it in front of his old man who held pit boards during the race.

Pagenaud now sits just five championship points behind German Andreas Wirth, who finished sixth in today's race.

The day was a tough one for P young Australian team-mate James Davison who finished 21st after starting 18th. Davison is now 15th in the championship after three rounds on 19 points.

The Atlantic Series returns to action at the Champ Car Grand Prix in Portland, June 16 -- 18 at Portland International Raceway in Portland, Oregon.

WHAT THEY HAD TO SAY--.

Simon Pagenaud # 15 Team Australia/Aussie Vineyards
"I'm feeling really good right now, although it is a little disappointing because I think we had a good enough car to win the race," said Pagenaud.

"At the start of the race I was having an issue with the gearbox because I couldn't downshift in braking but after I got that sorted he Team Australia car was incredible and maintained a good pace throughout the race.

"The team did a great job all weekend and we are ready to win races and fight for the championship."

James Davison #5 Team Australia/Aussie Vineyards
"This weekend I've moved forward a long way, seventh in the first qualifying session, fourth in the practice and it went downhill a little bit from there, but I know it has given me something on paper to believe in myself," said Davison.

"I look forward to going to Portland with my improved package that the team and I are developing."

Derrick Walker -- Team Australia co-owner
"Today was another good finish by Simon, it was a pity he didn't get ahead Graham at the start there otherwise I think that he could have clearly won the race," said Walker.

"The championship is very close, so it was a good finish for both drivers.

"At one stage James was running at one time as quick as most of the pack, it's just unfortunate that he wasn't able to finish the race without an incident, otherwise he could have had another good finish."

Craig Gore -- Team Australia co-owner
"Simon is doing a fantastic job and is certainly knocking on the door of a win and top spot in the championship. He is proud to be a part of this operation and we are more than happy to have him," said Gore.

"James again punched above his weight this weekend and it's only a matter of time before we see something special from this kid that's going to sit up and make everyone take notice."
