Conquest Racing Atlantic Team Battles Rain for the First Race of the Weekend
Giacamo Ricci and Matt Lee take 11th and 19th at round four of the Champ Car Atlantic Championship series
Indianapolis, IN, June 9, 2007 -- Despite the cold and wet conditions that faced the Conquest Racing Atlantic Team, both Giacomo Ricci and Matt Lee forged on to finish 11th and 19th at Saturday's round four race at the Mazda Champ Car Grand Prix of Portland Presented by Joe's Sports and Outdoor. Ricci (#18 Mazda-Cosworth/Swift/Cooper) finished 11th with a 75.520-mph average speed. Teammate Matt Lee (#44 Mazda-Cosworth/Swift/Cooper) finished 19th with a 73.340-mph average speed.
"There were some difficult challenges at today's race," said Ricci. "I was sliding around a lot and despite all of our efforts this weekend, improving our standings was difficult. I hope to have better results at tomorrow's race and I look forward to seeing this track for another race."
"Both qualifying and the race were disappointing today," began Lee. "Last night we had made some positive changes and we worked through a few problems. Today I was sliding around a lot and we began this morning with a strong strategy with the car and rain tires. The weather has been a challenge but we'll start to work on improving our times tomorrow."
"The entire team gave a good effort despite the tough conditions today," said Steve Ragan, Conquest Atlantic Team Manager. "Both of the drivers had difficult tasks and went out to attack the wet course. The drivers did make some mistakes today but they can take this race as a learning experience and apply it to future situations."
In Saturday morning's qualifying for the second race of this weekend's double header, the Conquest Racing Atlantic Team of Matt Lee and Giacomo Ricci took 18th and 19th in the field. Matt Lee (#44 Mazda-Cosworth/Swift/Cooper) finished 18th with a lap time of 67.041 and a top speed of 105.464-mph. Giacomo Ricci (#18 Mazda-Cosworth/Swift/Cooper) finished 19th with a lap time of 67.311 and a top speed of 105.041-mph.
