Gallant Seventh For Hunt at Road America

Gold Coast driver Josh Hunt recorded his best result of the Toyota Atlantic Championship in round nine at Road America in Wisconsin yesterday aboard his Wright Patton Shakespeare supported Swift.

After starting from ninth position 19-year-old Hunt was settling into a rythym during the opening few laps on the 4.084 mile (6.515km) circuit before being caught in some "dirty air" between turns one and two during the second lap.

With a lack of downforce on the front end of his car Hunt spun along the edge of the circuit with contact between himself and Alex Figge as Hunt was sliding along the side of the circuit.

The impact damaged Hunt's front wing and nose cone forcing him into the pit area for repairs to be completed by Lynx Racing.

"I was coming between turn one and two taking the same line I had all weekend and the car in front got a little bit out of shape disturbing the air infront of me, all of a sudden I was spinning on the side of the circuit," said Hunt.

"Luckily for me I only had minor damage and was able to continue."

With the circuit under yellow flag conditions the team was able to repair the damage to Hunt's Wright Patton Shakespeare Swift and ensured he returned to the circuit without going down a lap on the race leaders.

On the restart Hunt was five seconds in arrears of the final placed driver whilst he was still making up the gap after pitting under the caution period when the green flag was waived.

Over the remaining 13-laps Hunt clawed his way back well inside the top ten to claim his best result of the year so far crossing the line in seventh.

"Given the circumstances it was a great result," said Hunt.

"It was good to show that I had the pace to be able to make my way through the pack and be on the back of the leading bunch by the end of the race.

"One of the most pleasing things about the race was the way in which I was able to make moves coming through the pack and the car was very consistent all race."

Hunt will now turn his focus towards next weekend's tenth round of the Championship in Denver.

Hunt is the first Australian to compete in the Toyota Atlantic Series since fellow Queenslander David Besnard in 1999 and has received major support from Wright Patton Shakespeare Financial Group, which is owned by Gold Coast businessman Craig Gore and Champ Car World Series Co-Owner and Aussie Kevin Kalkhoven.
