Bessette : disappointment in turn 4

San Jose, California, July 31 : Antoine Bessette had a shot for another podium when disaster struck after 39 laps out of 45 in the ninth round of the Toyota Atlantic race of the season. Starting from 6th place, AB moved within a few laps into fourth position and stayed for the majority of the race behind teammate Katherine Legge who took the lead on lap 31, David Martinez and Charles Zwolsman. At one point, the foursome got behind a backmarker who slowed down to let the leading group by. Unfortunately, the first three got by the slow moving car but Bessette ran out of real estate and hit the tire wall in turn 4.

"I was gaining on Charles and I had a faster car, says AB. I saw the slow car on my left and thought he would keep his snail pace to let the four cars by. But when my turn came to pass him, he was in the turn and there was no room anymore for a second car. At the speed I was going, there was no possibility for stopping behind him without hitting him, so I tried the exterior and couldn't avoid the wall, like so many this weekend."

I'm very disappointed because it means a fifth place in the standings instead of a sure second if I had finished. This is the third time this year I have an encounter with a back marker and it is very costly this time."

Antoine Bessette will take some time off in Quebec in the next weeks preparing for the next event, yet another street race, in Denver. Antoine Bessette, the only Canadian to enter the 12-race series, is presently third in the standings. He will drive the #3 Unik Auto Design car from Polestar Racing Group.
