Both Ricci and Lee's Day Ended by Contact with the Wall

Matt Lee (#44 Integrated Structure / Mazda-Cosworth) and Giacomo Ricci (#18 Banca Italease / Lotto / Global / Mazda-Cosworth) had early finish to their race at San Jose when Lee made contact with the wall in turn three on lap 29 and Ricci made contact in turn six on lap 37. Matt had a promising start to his day as he was in fifth position on the grid. He made it through the first corner without incident but was forced inside, dropping him back three spots. Further along in the first lap, Lee overshot turn six which took him into the run off and to the back of the competitive field.

Giacomo started 19th on the grid and was able to gain three positions on the start and had a clean first lap without incident. After a yellow flag with about forty minutes remaining, Ricci climbed to thirteenth and finally twelfth with his teammate Matt Lee battling just behind him. Giacomo's day was ended on lap 37 in turn six here contact with the wall caused a broken front wing and ended his day. Ricci's finish today drops him back to sixth position in the 2007 Atlantic Series championship standings, passed by San Jose race winner Jonathan Bomarito.

Giacomo Ricci #18 Banca Italease / Lotto / Global / Mazda-Cosworth

"My finish way a big disappointment to me today," said Ricci. "I was moving up through the field pretty well, passing and picking up positions which was making me more confident. I have struggled with this street course all weekend along with my braking and in turn six I just couldn't keep the car out of the tire wall. I hope that I can have a better finish in Road America so I can end my season strong."

"We started so well being in fifth position today," said Lee. "I made it through the first turn but lost a few positions when I got stuck on the inside and had nowhere to go. After that I overshot turn six and had to turn around which put me last. I charged back to thirteenth and was right behind Giacomo when I hit the wall in turn three and it ended my day. I wan to thank my team for helping me to get to that fifth place qualifying and I hope we can do that again at Road America."

Steve Ragan, Conquest Racing Atlantic Team Manager

"It's disappointing to have both cars end up in the wall today," said Steve Ragan, Conquest Racing Atlantic Team Manager. "We were hoping that Matt would be able to take advantage of his fifth position start but small mistakes cost us an opportunity for good results. We're looking forward to the last championship race of our season in Elkhart Lake and hope we can have Giacomo back into the top five in the championship."
