Le Grand Prix de Trois Rivières
Round 8 of 12
July 12, 2003
#3 Aaron Justus: Qualified 5th (1:00.053/91.179-mph). Finished 14th.
#4 A.J. Allmendinger: Qualified 1st (59.296/92.343-mph *new track record). Fastest lap of the race/ Finished 1st.
RuSPORT's race day started with a lot of promise as A.J. Allmedinger maintained his top spot and teammate Aaron Justus fought from fifth to third in just the first five laps. While A.J. commnaded his lead to grasp his third consecutive victory and fifth for the season, a slip by Aaron on Lap 18 left the #3 car with a broken rear wing. After repairs, Justus ran back on the pace to finish the race. Today's results extend Allmendinger's championship points lead to 36 (150 total) and Justus stands 5th overall (83 total).
#3 Aaron Justus
"Overall, surprisingly, I'm very pleased with the whole weekend. We made huge progress with the car and learned a lot. In the big picture of improving, we made giant steps. I was also pleased with my driving. I had been driving fast, making passes at the right time, and then I just made a mistake. I was by myself and locked up the rear tires. It was just a driver error. It doesn't usually happen like that, but it happened. Now I suck it up, go to Mid-Ohio and don't do it again."
#4 A.J. Allmendinger
"Actually it was a very tough race. Ryan (Dalziel) just ran me every lap. The car was really good the first half of the race, but then it went a little loose at the end. With that, and being held up by lapped traffic, Ryan caught up to me. Then it was an all out dogfight. I've never actually had three consecutive wins in any car I've driven, so today is a real accomplishment not just for me, but for R?SPORT as well."
Jeremy Dale, Team President
"It was a great day for A.J., obviously not such a great day for Aaron. It was a bittersweet day for the team for sure. A.J.'s drive was an exceptional drive. He managed the car and he managed the racetrack and it's a very difficult track to do that. Aaron did a great job getting from fifth to third. He knew he had a great car to run with those guys (the leaders), and he was matching them lap for lap. It was disappointing, but he'll come out of the box strong at Mid-Ohio."
Carl Russo, Team Owner
"Early on in the race, it looked like two podium finishes for us. Aaron, once again, came to the front. A slight error on a street circuit like this is guaranteed to take you out of the race. Unfortunately, Aaron made one. A.J.-what can you say? He drove a dominating race, dealt with traffic, and even with traffic was able to extend his lead and his lead in the points. Obviously we leave here in good stead to continue our drive to win the Toyota Atlantic Championship."
