5:54 p.m. - - #9 FRAZIER makes an inside-to-outside swing through turn three, which leads to #96 SCHROEDER making nose-to-tail contact with #9 FRAZIER - #9 FRAZIER continues - #96 SCHROEDER stops against the wall (driver’s left) - driver out and okay but retires from the session - brings out a YELLOW FLAG.

6:00 p.m. - - GREEN FLAG

6:04 p.m. - - #85 KNAPP sets a new track record with a fast lap of 1:04.171 - 95.538 mph.

6:05 p.m. - - #9 FRAZIER stops in turn 1B and retires from the session.

6:11 p.m. - - #19 GIDLEY sets another new track record at 1:04.142 - 95.582 mph.

6:14 p.m. - - #19 GIDLEY breaks his own track record with a fast lap of 1:03.833 - 96.044 mph.

#19 MEMO GIDLEY, of San Rafael, Calif., wins the PROVISIONAL POLE in the Lynx Racing-prepared Ralt RT-41 with a NEW TRACK RECORD of 1:03.833 - 96.044 mph. #85 STEVE KNAPP, of Salem, Wis., is second fastest in the P1-NTN Bearings/ Miller Milling Ralt RT-41 at 1:03.988 - 95.811 mph. #32 ALEX BARRON, of Vista, Calif., was third fastest the Lynx Racing-Victory Circle/Red Line Oil Ralt RT-41 at 1:04.007 - 95.783 mph.

GIDLEY’S time eclipses the previous track record of 1:04.335 - 95.295 mph set last year by current CART PPG driver PATRICK CARPENTIER.

Today’s top five provisional qualifiers all ran under the previous track record.

GIDLEY’S previous best qualifying results are all on the outside pole (second place) at Homestead, Nazareth, and Cleveland.
