HIGHLAND PARK, Ill., (February 22, 2001) -- On the heels of their agreement with Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A. as their title sponsor, the CART Toyota Atlantic Championship announced today that it has renewed their contract with long time associate sponsor, Yokohama Tire Corporation. The agreement extends Yokohama's support for the series for an additional three years carrying their involvement through the 2003 season. The upcoming 2001 season will mark Yokohama's 13th year of support for the tradition rich, open-wheeled series.

"Yokohama's 12 years with the Toyota Atlantic Championship has been a point of great pride for the company," remarked Yokohama Motorsports Manager, Chris Miller. "We have always felt that the Atlantics were the premiere driver development series in the world and look forward to the next 3 years with great enthusiasm."

For the past 12 years, every car in the CART Toyota Atlantic Championship has raced on Yokohama racing tires. Starting in 1998 with the introduction of the Swift 008.a chassis, all competitors using the Swift are equipped with 15-inch low profile Yokohama spec racing radial tires.

"I am extremely pleased and proud that the Yokohama Tire Corporation is continuing it's support of the Toyota Atlantic Championship," series president Vicki O'Connor said. "It is through relationships such as Yokohama's and that of Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., that the series has been able to grow and prosper."

The CART Toyota Atlantic Championship is one of the world's premier open-wheel development series and a key rung on CART's "ladder system". It is also noted for its long history of graduating its stars into CART competition. Among the drivers who have graduated from the Atlantic Series are CART Champ Car stars Michael Andretti, Jimmy Vasser, Alex Barron, Memo Gidley, Patrick Carpentier, Alex Tagliani as well as former series champions Bobby Rahal, Danny Sullivan and Jacques Villeneuve.
