The Indian missed on Superpole having qualified ninth for Race 1 of the fourth round in the one-make championship.
But with a penalty to Cheng Congfu gave Patel eighth place start for Sunday morning race, as Alessio Picariello claimed pole from title contender and former Formula 1 racer Alex Yoong.
For the race, Patel made headway to finish a solid sixth keeping Martin Rump at bay, while chasing newcomer Dan Wells.
The Indian's inroads was helped by collision between Picariello and Yoong as they fought for the race win, giving Marchy Lee his maiden win of the season.
Rahel Frey finished second with Korea's Kyoung-Ouk You completing the podium.
More points in Race 2
With penalty to Picariello, veteran Yoong eked out a dominant win over Rump by over six seconds, to take the championship lead.
Lee held off Picariello by just 0.151s to complete the podium and also moved to second in standings with one point advantage over the Belgian.
The JK Tyre-backed driver Patel had another fruitful run with a fifth place finish behind Picariello and comfortably ahead of Race 1 podium finisher Frey.
The results put Patel tied for eighth spot with guest driver Edoardo Mortara on 44 points, after the end of eight races in the season.
