Montreal, Canada, October 27, 2004 -- Canadian race car driver Bruno Spengler -- the ambassador of the Casino of Montreal and the Parc Omega in Montebello -- has completed a test behind the wheel of the prototype of the Formula Superfund single-seater at the Nurburging, Germany.

The 21-year old Canadian, who competed in the Euro Formula 3 Series for the past two seasons, was invited by the organizers of the Formula Superfund Championship to test the prototype of next year's car. Since it is still a prototype, the engineers requested that the car only took the track for very short runs.

Thuesday (Oct 26): Bruno Spengler completed only three runs and a total of just four flying laps around the short Nurburgring circuit, setting a best time of 1 minute 17 seconds. At the end of the day, the series' organizers invited Spengler to stay in Germany to do another day of testing.

Wednesday (Oct 27): The cold temperature and a thick fog forced the series' organizers to cancel the test they had scheduled for Bruno Spengler and former Formula 1 driver Karl Wendlinger.

QUOTE FROM BRUNO SPENGLER

"What a great race car this is! The V-10 engine is extremely powerful and braking power is just phenomenal. The first time I stepped on the throttle, I could not believe it! It's extremely brutal. With 750 horsepower, it's almost like driving a Minardi Formula 1 car. I quickly got used to the speed and I managed to set a good lap time despite having done just three very short runs yesterday. It's a shame that the weather was so bad today hat they had to cancel the test. However, I will remain in close contact with the series' organizers to drive the car again. It will be a very good series in 2005 with good visibility and extensive television coverage. We will look at the possibility of racing in the Formula Superfund Championship next year."

Information about the Formula Superfund : Next year, the Formula Superfund Championship will replace the Formula 3000 European Championship sponsored by Superfund. Since Formula 3000 no longer exists, Austrian sponsor Superfund decided to build its own spec single-seater. The carbon fibre tub is mated to a 4-litre V-10 engine that is rebuilt every 5,000 kilometres. The six-speed X-Trac transmission is commanded by a paddle system similar to that used in Formula 1. Front and rear wings and a diffuser generate massive downforce. The car is fitted with Brembo carbon brakes and slick tires. With 750 horsepower and a weight of just 600 kilos, the Formula Superfund has a better power-to-weight ratio than a Champ car that has 775 horsepower but is heavier at 711 kilos. In 2005, the series will distribute $1 million in prize money and will stage 10 races on European circuits such as Estoril, Monza, Zandvoort, Donington and Vallelunga.
