EARLY FIGHT BETWEEN BRATT AND ONIDI IN MONZA FREE PRACTICE SESSIONS
The last weekend of the Euroseries 3000 history started with an immediate fight at the top. Even if Friday is only bound for Free Practice, nobody cared about that and nobody wanted to stay behind, also because immediately finding a good feeling and the right setup can be crucial for a good result. So, right from the first laps of the first session, Fabio Onidi and Will Bratt stayed in front of the pack. It was a bit of a surprise because both had never raced in Monza. The brit, who already in Vallelunga had showed how quickly he can learn a new track, had the lead for nearly the whole session, just to be passed by Onidi il the last minutes, the italian stopping the clocks on the time of 1'38"246. The Lola B05/52 showed again how fast they can be, thundering at 305 kph at the end of the main straight. A great speed, with which Rodolfo Gonzalez was at ease: he clinched the 3 rd best time only a few hundreths faster than his team mate at Fisichella Motorsport International, Marco Bonanomi.
Behind them, nearly two seconds adrift, Juan Carlos Sistos (who carefully took his time to learn the track) and Francesco Dracone, followed by Matteo Cozzari. The young italian driver is a newcomer in the championship and he needed to get acquainted with the car.
The second sessions saw the comeback of Fabrizio Crestani; the fourth contender for the title, absent in the morning for personal reasons, managed to be immediately fast. He got the fourth time stopping the clock on 1'38"555 using old tyres, the same time made by Bratt in the same conditions. The fight for the quickest time, anyway, was again between Onidi and Bratt. In the afternoon
the brit prevailed, taking full advantage from a slipstream and clinching a time 4 tenths faster than anybody else, 1'36"822. Even if it was just free practice, this time is just 0"4 adrift of the Superleague Formula pole position, whose car is equipped with a 750 bhp engine.
Onidi, who in the first stages tried a new setup solution with less downforce, turned back to the morning settings and was second, just 7 hundredths faster than Gonzalez. The Venezuelan driver was followed closely by Bonanomi. Closing the pack, Dracone, Sistos and Cozzari. The young italian stopped on track without fuel in the final minutes, but anyway he managed to improve his morning laptime by 4 seconds.
Worth to notice, the absence of Edoardo Piscopo. The driver from Rome should have been in Monza but he had to give up due to the pain caused by the GP2 Main Series crash in Jerez.
