With Rockingham Motor Speedway near Corby, Northants just days away from its official opening on May 26th The Hilton Hotel, Corby has teamed up with leading ASCAR team Torquespeed as a unique way of promoting the areas leading and only four-star hotel.

ASCAR features American-style stock cars and is the main oval track series that will run on the new one and a half-mile track at Rockingham. Torquespeed is one of the leading teams with almost 100 years combined experience of oval-track racing amongst its crew members.

The new series visits Rockingham on five occasions in 2001 and The Hilton's General Manager in Corby Tim Kenworthy sees some great opportunities. "Rockingham is certain to generate a lot of attention for the area both nationally and internationally. Linking up with Torquespeed is a great way for us to generate additional awareness of the range of facilities that we have to offer here in Corby. I've seen stock car racing in America and it delivers an incredible experience for the race fans. Those fans and business people visiting can be assured of a warm welcome here at the Hilton."

Speaking about the initiative, Torquespeed's commercial director Paul Musselle said, "We're delighted to have an association with The Hilton, Corby. As a team we set high standards and of course Hilton Hotels are renowned the world over for their high standards of service and comfort. After the stress, pressures, long days and hard work following qualifying and the races, I know the team will really look forward to relaxing back at the Hilton, Corby. And it's fantastic that the hotel is literally only a pitstop away from the track."

Torquespeed's driver and winner of three Stock Car World Championships John Mickel was equally pleased. "With all the travelling we do it's great to have a comfortable base so close to the circuit that has everything we need to get the job done."

The car in which John will compete for the inaugural ASCAR championship is American built and has a 6.6 litre engine developing over 565-brake horsepower. All the cars in the series are identical with technical regulations strictly imposed to ensure close racing and lots of overtaking. Pit stops and caution periods where the field is closed up behind a pace car before a restart are sure to add to the spectacle.
