San Antonio, TX (July 21, 2005) - Terry Barden, Vice President of Operations for United States Racing Association (USRA-TX), has resigned his position with USRA effective immediately. Terry Dickerson, President of USRA, made the announcement today.
Barden stated he has decided to pursue other interests, which includes spending more time with his family.
"With the move of Terry and Tammy Dickerson here (the Dickersons are currently moving to Boerne), it does not make any business sense for me to remain," Barden stated. "The Dickersons will be able to handle the day-to-day operations of both USRA and San Antonio Speedway (SAS). Spending time with my family has become a priority, and this change will allow me to do that, as well as pursue other interests. But mostly, I want to take trips and spend time with my grandchildren."
Barden added, "I will still be around the local racing scene. Linda and I plan to continue attending races at San Antonio Speedway as well as other tracks. I appreciate everyone's support and wish everyone in USRA - from the the racers to the crews to the USRA officials, including Terry and Tammy Dickerson - all the luck in the world."
In addition to directing the competition for the USRA touring series, Barden was also the General Manager and Promoter for San Antonio Speedway. A replacement for Barden's position has not yet been named. The current staff will be realigned to assume Barden's responsibilities in the interim.
"Terry really helped make the USRA Super Late Model Series the success it is today," Terry Dickerson said. "He also helped us make a smooth transition to track and series management when I purchased San Antonio Speedway and the other series currently operated by the USRA. With our move to Boerne, both Tammy and I will be playing a more active role in managing USRA and San Antonio Speedway. I'm glad Terry has agreed to let us lean on him for advice in the future, and we're leaving things on very good terms. Tammy and I wish Terry and Linda the best of luck in their future endeavors."
The racing action will continue this weekend with the USRA Texas Asphalt Modified Series (TAMS) making its third visit to Corpus Christi Motor Speedway this Saturday (July 23). Also on Saturday night, San Antonio Speedway will be featuring the NASCAR Late Model, Sportsman, Road Runner and Women on Wheels classes.
