LANGHORNE, PA JANUARY 20, 2002 . . . The Eastern Motorsport Press Association, made up of more than 200 media (print, broadcast, photographers and internet) that cover motorsports on a regular basis, unanimously elected Ernie Saxton as president of the organization for another two-year term.
Saxton has been president for all but two of the years since Saxton and a group of four others founded the group in 1969.
The 60-year-old president, who gives his wife (Marilyn) most of the credit for the success of the organization, operates his own motorsports marketing firm in Langhorne, PA (Ernie Saxton Communications, Inc.). He is also a columnist/writer/broadcaster for Area Auto Racing News, Inside Track Motorsports News (Canada), AutoLocator, www.openwheelracing.com, www.phillyracing.com and www.phillyracing.com. He is also heard on Monday Night Motorsports with John Richetta and Mark Kenyon on Monday's at 5:30 p.m. on WEST-AM Easton, PA.
Saxton, a veteran of more than 40 years on the motorsports business, also publishes Motorsports Sponsorship Marketing News, a monthly newsletter cover marketing, sponsorship and promotion in motorsports.
"I continue to appreciate the confidence the membership has in me (and Marilyn) when they continue to ask us to lead the organization. Our three day convention, just completed, was a huge success. We are looking forward to growth and some organization changes during the next two years," said Saxton.
Len Sammons (Area Auto Racing News) will serve as vice president. David Moulthrop (Gater Racing News and Berkshire Courier) will be the Northern Vice President. The organization named a Southern Vice President, Monty Dutton (Gaston Gazzette). Marilyn Saxton will continue as secretary while Bill Yoder (Motgomery Publishing) serves as treasurer.
The Board of Directors, for the next two years, will include John Snyder (Area Auto Racing News/ Speedway Illustrated), Ron Hedger (National Speed Sport News), Bob Yurko (Area Auto Racing News), Bill Huneke (Trentonian), Dick Brinster (Associated Press) and Herb Anastor (Area Auto Racing News).
The Eastern Motorsport Press Association continues to strive toward improved media coverage of motorsports, improved conditions for the media and building a working relationship with organizations and speedways throughout the Eastern states.
Plans for the 2003 convention will be announced in the very near future.
