HARRISBURG, NC (Jan. 11, 2001) - "Caballeros*enciendan sus motores." ("Gentlemen, start your engines!"). These words will usher in a new era of race broadcasting April 1 when the Performance Racing Network presents the Harrah's 500 NASCAR Winston Cup race at Texas Motor Speedway entirely in Spanish.

The national broadcast will mark the first NASCAR Winston Cup race to be carried flag-to-flag in Spanish. Performance Racing Network will syndicate the broadcast nationwide that will be made available to all Hispanic radio outlets.

Felix Sabates, a long-time Winston Cup car owner, will be an analyst for the race. Carlos Contreras, driver for the Mattel NASCAR Craftsman Truck team, will serve as one of the pit reporters. The balance of the broadcast crew will be announced later. Julio Fernandez of the Indy Racing Radio Network will be the broadcast director.

"This is a very exciting project for PRN as we open the door for a whole new radio audience," said Doug Rice, PRN Vice-President and General Manager. "The competition of NASCAR Winston Cup racing translates well in all languages."

"Texas Motor Speedway is honored to participate in this inaugural project," said Eddie Gossage, speedway Executive Vice-President and General Manager. "There are more than 500 predominately Hispanic broadcasting outlets in the United States with one-third of them located in Texas. We believe this is a great opportunity for the excitement of NASCAR Winston Cup racing to reach another segment of the market."

"This is a terrific avenue to continue the growth of the sport into new markets for NASCAR," said Paul Brooks, NASCAR Vice President of Broadcasting. "This is a very innovative move by PRN that will help expand the boundaries of NASCAR Winston Cup racing."

The Performance Racing Network will broadcast eight NASCAR Winston Cup races in 2001 and six NASCAR Busch Series events. The network also produces the syndicated weekly shows, Fast Talk with Benny Parsons and The Pit Reporters, plus the daily news show, PRN's Garage Pass.

The Performance Racing Network is a subsidiary of Speedway Motorsports, Inc. (SMI). Speedway Motorsports, Inc. is a leading marketer and promoter of motorsports entertainment in the United States. SMI owns and operates the following premiere facilities: Atlanta Motor Speedway; Bristol Motor Speedway; Las Vegas Motor Speedway; Lowe's Motor Speedway (Concord, N.C.); Sears Point Raceway; and Texas Motor Speedway.
