CHARLOTTE, N.C. (Jan 2., 2001) -- When On Track magazine debuted 20 years ago it filled a void for the fan wanting news on the racing scene. Since television coverage at the time was rare, On Track gave fans coverage of the sport and inside information they couldn't find anywhere else.

The racing landscape has changed since then, and so has the way news is reported. In keeping pace with the technology revolution, On Track announced that they can now be found exclusively in cyberspace at http://www.ontrackonline.com, and is now free to Internet users worldwide. The Dec. 31, 2000 edition of On Track was the final print version of the magazine.

"Ontrackonline.com is going to build upon the strong foundation of the print publication, enhancing what we've done in the past because the Internet is limitless and has no time constraints," said Whitney Shaw, editor. "We can bring the news to our readers almost the instant it happens, not weeks later."

The move to publish online brings forth several new opportunities for On Track. In addition to the analysis and daily reporting on more than 29 racing series, readers will benefit in many ways:

"Now we can interact with the readers in ways not possible when bound by print limitations," Shaw said. "I think that we will find Ontrackonline.com will quickly become the first stop -- and hopefully the only stop -- for the race fan looking for news, statistics, and insight into all the racing series we cover."

Current subscribers of On Track will not be left out during the change. Their remaining subscription time will be switched, at their choice, to NASCAR Winston Cup Scene, NASCAR Winston Cup Illustrated, or a six-month e-mail subscription to an enhanced daily newsletter exclusively for On Track subscribers.

Street & Smith's Sports Group, a division of American City Business Journals owned by Advance Publications, publishes Ontrackonline.com. Periodicals published by the company include NASCAR Winston Cup Scene, NASCAR Winston Cup Illustrated and a variety of other leading sports publications.
