Jimmy Spencer, driver of the No. 26 Kmart Taurus, was one of two drivers that did not wear a head and neck support system last weekend at Michigan. He spoke about his plans for wearing either the HANS or Hutchens device prior to tonight's Sharpie 500.

JIMMY SPENCER --26-- Kmart Taurus -- "I've been looking into it (a restraint system) hard and heavy the last couple of weeks. I've got both of them right now and we're gonna test both of them Monday and Tuesday at Talladega. I've had the HANS device on and it's very uncomfortable. Will I wear it? I don't know. I've got to get used to it right now. The Hutchens device looks about the best right now for comfort. When you've driven for 20 years, not just in Winston Cup and you've never had anything to tie your head down, it just feels weird to tie something to your head. Looking at all the release data and films and crash tests, yeah, you probably should wear something." SO YOU WON'T WEAR ANYTHING TONIGHT? "No."

DO YOU THINK YOU HAVE AN OBLIGATION FOR SHORT-TRACK DRIVERS THAT LOOK UP TO YOU TO WEAR SOMETHING LIKE THAT?

"I think there are a certain amount of short-track drivers that look up to the Winston Cup drivers without a question. I think a lot of them look and say, 'Wow, Jeff Gordon is wearing it and Tony Stewart isn't. Why?' So, yeah, I think in a lot of ways some of the drivers are questioning why some of the other drivers aren't doing it. I don't know what Tony's thinking. I'm sure he's looking into something too. We're the only two guys that aren't doing it and we probably should."
