PALATINE, Illinois (September 21, 2001) - Square D and Schneider Electric announced today that a new two-year agreement with Andy Petree Racing has been reached which will continue its primary sponsorship of the NASCAR Winston Cup #55 Chevrolet for the 2002-2003 seasons.

This new NASCAR sponsorship will be used as a key element and rallying point forthe internal and external introduction of the new Schneider Electric/Schneider Legrand organization in North America. SQUARE D is the flagship brand in the U.S. for Schneider Electric, the worldwide electrical industry leader whose merger with Legrand is expected to be finalized in mid-October. Legrand is a worldwide leader in low voltage final distribution - from electrical switches to home automation applications. When approved, the merger will create a combined organization in North America with over 24,000 employees, sales of approximately $3.8 billion and leading electrical industry brands such as MERLIN GERIN, MODICON, ORTRONICS, PASS AND SEYMOUR, SQUARE D, TELEMECANIQUE, THE WATTSTOPPER and WIREMOLD.

More details on the agreement, as well as a new name and paint scheme for the car, will be announced at a press conference scheduled for Friday, October 19, at the Talladega, Ala., Superspeedway. Driver Bobby Hamilton and the SQUARE D #55 Chevrolet are the defending champions of the Talladega 500 held this past April.

Headquartered in Palatine, IL, the North American Division of Schneider Electric had sales of $3 billion in 2000. The North American Division is one of four geographic divisions of Schneider Electric, headquartered in Paris, France, and markets the brands of Schneider Electric in the United States, Canada and Mexico. In the U.S., it is best known by its flagship SQUARE D brand, a market-leading brand of electrical distribution, industrial control and automation products, systems and services. Schneider Electric is a global electrical industry leader with 2000 sales of approximately $9.7 billion.
