NASHVILLE, TN (January 15) -- TNN: The National Network, the Pennzoil World of Outlaws Series' television home, is expanding its commitment to live sprint car racing programming by providing live coverage of three more events in 2001. The world's premier sprint car racing series made its live television debut on TNN in 1995 at the Amoco Knoxville Nationals. TNN will televise 18 Pennzoil World of Outlaws Series races this season, 16 live and two tape-delayed. Brian Hughes, Senior Vice President Sports and Outdoors at TNN, reaffirmed the cable network's commitment to the Pennzoil World of Outlaws Series and motorsports at the series' 23rd Annual Awards Banquet in Las Vegas in early November. "A little more than a year ago, Viacom/MTV Networks acquired TNN, CBS and CMT," Hughes said. "They did a lot of research in terms of what the equities of the MTV brand are. Motorsports, without question, registered highly with consumers. We have people in Nashville, including Mark Kuchan, Paul Morris, Nancy Neil and Dana Landry, who will continue to support the series. We're going to bring additional resources to the television package as well to make this bigger and better. We want to elevate the World of Outlaws to a completely different level." Pennzoil World of Outlaws Series Founder and President Ted Johnson is pleased to have TNN expand its coverage of "the greatest show on dirt." "TNN provides the Pennzoil World of Outlaws series with an opportunity to showcase this sport to a national audience," Johnson said. "We have continued to attract new fans, sponsors and media to the series since our first live telecast on TNN." TNN will televise races from two facilities that have campaigned for live coverage for several years: Lernerville Speedway and Eagle Raceway. Lernerville will host its first live TV event June 1st, while the Eagle Nationals will be televised for the first time 21 days later. TNN will also provide first-time live TV coverage from Houston Raceway Park, a two-year-old track, on March 23rd. While TNN extends its live coverage of the Amoco Knoxville Nationals for the seventh consecutive year, its cameras will also be at Knoxville Raceway for the Iowa Ethanol Classic June 30th. The Pennzoil World of Outlaws Series' first live telecast of the year on TNN will be from Las Vegas Motor Speedway March 2nd. TNN's cameras will catch all the action at Texas Motor Speedway four weeks later, before heading to Houston the following week. Legendary Williams Grove Speedway will host a live televised race May 18th before TNN heads to Lowe's Motor Speedway for the Second Annual Outlaws Showdown May 25-26. TNN will also televise both the preliminary and feature racing programs from Bristol Motor Speedway's CHANNELLOCK Challenge for the second straight year June 8-9. TNN will televise the Duel in the Dakotas live from Red River Valley Speedway for the fourth straight year. Eldora Speedway's 18th Annual Kings Royal will be televised for the fifth time in as many years. It will be taped and shown July 28th. TNN will return to Texas Motor Speedway for the Second Annual Texas Showdown September 14th. The Lincoln/Omaha, NE, area will get its second TV race of the year one week later when TNN catches all the fire-breathing, mudslinging action at I-80 Speedway. Lowe's Motor Speedway will host its third televised race of the year when TNN returns to the semi-banked, 4/10-mile oval for the Second Annual Outlaws Championship October 5th. TNN will tape the season finale from Las Vegas Motor Speedway and televise it November 2nd. A two-hour encore presentation will be aired at midnight following each regularly scheduled telecast.
