"This is one more important step in the road we've taken to assure the Dodge program has nothing but the best racing technology," said team owner Ray Evernham. "I've won many races and a Winston Cup championship with Valvoline and I couldn't be more pleased we have their latest technology available to us.

"Valvoline's high technology premium racing products and premium image are a perfect complement to the team we are building. With the technology that we're putting in to help develop this engine and make horsepower, I believe we will be at the front of our field," added Evernham.

"We wanted to work with Ray because we knew he was building something special and we wanted to be part of that," said Jim Rocco, Senior Vice President Worldwide Operations for Valvoline. "We are going to be part of NASCAR racing for a long time and this rounds out what we consider the best sponsorship program and best technology development program we've ever had in any series."

Rocco said that associating Valvoline products with veteran driver Bill Elliott and rookie Casey Atwood would help the company market to both loyal NASCAR fans and possibly an entire new generation of fans. Valvoline previously announced a landmark agreement to own its own Winston Cup team. The company will partner with MB2 Motorsports to own the No. 10 Valvoline Pontiac to be driven next year by Johnny Benson. After many years as a primary and associate team sponsor, Valvoline becomes the first major consumer products company to own a NASCAR Winston Cup team. SEASON RECAP: Mark Martin finished eighth in the season's final Winston Cup point standings. He had one win, in April at Martinsville, in the Valvoline Ford Taurus and 13 top-five and 20 top-10 results. Johnny Benson finished 10th at Atlanta and 13th in points in the Aaron's Pontiac, which will be sponsored and co-owned by Valvoline in 2001.

Special Report: Big Brothers Total Tops $540,000

The two-year total of money raised through Valvoline's NASCAR effort for Big Brothers Big Sisters of America's "Caring Hands" program, including Monday's final race at Atlanta, is $540,577. Since 1999, Valvoline has donated $5,000 for each Mark Martin Winston Cup victory in the Valvoline Ford, $2,500 for each pole, $20 per lap led, and this year added a $1,000 contribution for a top-five finish.
