McLaren F1 team wins inaugural Autosport Team of the Year Award

The McLaren Formula 1 Team is the first winner of the Autosport Team of the Year Award

Autosport Awards

The Autosport Awards are a series of awards presented by motor racing magazine Autosport to drivers that have achieved significant milestones each season. Some of the presentations are selected by the general public via a reader's poll.

The McLaren Formula 1 Team has become the first winner of the Autosport Team of the Year Award.

McLaren took an F1 title double in 2025, wrapping up its 10th constructors’ crown and 13th drivers’ championship with Lando Norris. Norris and team-mate Oscar Piastri won 14 of the 24 grands prix with McLaren’s MCL39.

Motorsport readers have voted McLaren the top team of 2025, ahead of IndyCar benchmark Chip Ganassi Racing, MotoGP dominator Ducati, World Endurance Championship title winner Ferrari AF Corse, NASCAR frontrunner Hendrick Motorsports, Porsche’s Formula E squad and the Toyota Gazoo Racing World Rally Team.

McLaren’s victory was announced at the 38th Autosport Awards at London’s Roundhouse on 21 January.

“Thank you very much on behalf of the entire McLaren Formula 1 team. There is a key concept that Ross [Brawn] expressed earlier, the relationships within the team allowed the team to turn around the competitiveness in three years and produce the best car too, two years in a row,” McLaren team principal Andrea Stella said.

“Thank you to the entire technical team, the 1000 strong team at the factory and everyone that supports us.”

Team of the Year is new for 2025 and is open to outstanding teams competing in motorsports and rewards fine teamwork, beyond an individual.

Other categories decided by fan voting include Driver of the Year, Rookie of the Year, Moment of the Year presented by Bahrain International Circuit, Competition Car of the Year, Rally Driver of the Year and British Competition Driver of the Year. Another new award for 2025 is Creator of the Year.

Further awards, decided by expert judging panels, include the Pioneering and Innovation Award, Promoter of the Year and Brand Partnership of the Year.
