Di Leo captures front row starting position.
(Toronto, Ontario) After grabbing the provisional pole in yesterdays qualifying session, 21-year-old Daniel Di Leo (Daniel Di Leo Auto Sports/Select Auto Collision) was looking forward to the Saturday runs. Already guaranteed a position on the front row at Laguna Seca, Daniel wanted to make sure he remained at the head of the class.
Di Leo hit the track early Saturday morning for his final practice session before the second round of qualifying. Though Daniel was only able to turn the sessions 8th quickest time he had a very good reason. "We had some brake problems yesterday which were fixed over night," explained Di Leo. "I had to use the first 5 laps of the session braking in the new brake pads. For the rest of the timed laps, I just ran around trying some new lines and saving my tires."
Di Leo showed his poise in qualifying and ran at the top of the charts for most of the session. "I was able to turn some good laps early in the session before I developed some minor problems with the brakes again." Di Leo checked up and found some open room on the track and, while sitting 5th quickest in the session, he showed his determination by cranking out a lap of 1:26.662. This was still good enough for 3rd fastest of the day even though the young Canadian slid wide on the entrance to a couple of corners as the left front Michelin on his Dodge racecar locked up. "Though I had some brake issues and I was not able to turn the quickest time of the combined sessions, I am excited about having the chance to start on the front row at one of the most famous tracks in North America."
While being in the hunt all season, Daniel finds himself sitting a strong third in the points race and with his front row starting position, he will make a valiant effort to obtain his first career Barber Dodge Pro Series win
