Another consistent finish for Davy Cook.

(Lexington, Ohio) August 12th, 2002 -- Cook shows strong with a solid performance in the Barber Dodge Pro Series at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Complex.

The young American rebounded nicely this past weekend after being involved in the carnage at Vancouver from the massive oil spill on the opening lap. Cook dropped from 2nd to 4th in the championship after that result but started racking up points again with his 7th place finish at the "roller-coaster" track of Mid-Ohio.

The Mid-Ohio fans saw an extremely tight field demonstrate some impressive race-craft as they were led over the stripe by 3rd year veteran Marc Breurs taking his first win after an intense battle with Rafael Sperafico and pole-sitter Christian Szymczak. Szymczak was forced to the back of the pack with a coolant leak ending his chance for his first win. A.J. Allmendinger took the final podim spot as a result. Following close behind in the tightly packed field was the other championship contender at the time, Davy Cook. Cook battled hard to climb up in the fight for the lead, but the closely matched field made that very difficult. That result ended his run of finishes always being in the top 5.

"That had to be about the closest racing among the top ten that I've ever competed in, explains Cook." " It seems that everyone in the series is closing up on one another. Hats off to Breurs for his impressive first win and my teammate Christian Szymczak for his first pole-position. My car set-up was good all weekend thanks to my very knowledgable mechanic Brian, and teammates and coach. I know I could have challenged for lead in the race if I had qualified better, but I'll have to put it all together next week for Road America and then the finale in Montreal."

Round 6 at Cleveland's Burke-Lakefront Airport circuit will be televised in a one hour broadcast on the "SPEED CHANNEL" this Saturday, August 17th at 1 pm Eastern time. Cook took the qualifying track record there as well as the win.
