In his second year in the Barber Dodge Pro Series, American Marc Breuers has begun to make a name for himself. His rookie season was a study in measured progression. Each event was a quest to improve a tenth of a second here and tenth of second there until he had honed his abilities and an intuitive understanding of the Barber Dodge Reynard 98E. Year two would see him raising the level of his game both off and on the track.

In 2001 his driving became more fluid, more incisive. Where last year there was trepidation and doubt, this year there is aggression and commitment. The results show with a front row start at Cleveland and his first podium finish at the same event. Just past the midway season, he lies sixth overall 20 points shy of the lead.

No doubt that part of that newly found confidence is bolstered by the fact that Breuers entered into a marketing agreement at the beginning of the year with petro-chemical giant Sunoco. The support of such a major company and the knowledge that the for budget to race was in place at the beginning of the year lifted a burden off of Breuers shoulders.

Throughout the summer Breuers is using his Sunoco affiliation to create some recognition for himself in his and Sunoco's home market of Philadelphia. Earlier this year Sunoco launched a new logo. In an effort to drive traffic to Philadelphia area service stations, "grand re-openings" are bringing recognition to the new branding. As part of the re-openings Breuers has appeared when his schedule allows with a Sunoco liveried Barber Dodge Reynard helping to attract crowds. In the process, Breuers has had the opportunity to meet many Philadephians, sign autographs and take pictures with kids in his racecar.

"I've had a great time meeting so many people. All of the off track promotion has really paid off. I've been able to build some name recognition for myself as well as for Sunoco and the enthusiasm for what I do and for Barber Dodge and CART racing has been tremendous," said Breuers.

In addition to the public appearances, Breuers has also spent time at Sunoco corporate events and meetings proudly displaying the blue, gold and red of Sunoco. Hopefully it won't be long before he's displaying a winner's trophy as well.
