MONTEREY, CALIFORNIA -- June 9, 2002: Canadian racer Josh Beaulieu gained six positions on the opening lap to finish 8th in Sunday's CART Barber Dodge race at Laguna Seca. After three of ten rounds, Beaulieu sits tied for 6th in season points and is 2nd among series rookies.

"I'm happy with how today went, especially the opening laps," commented Beaulieu. "I knew that the start would be my best opportunity to make up positions, and I made the most of it in turn 2. It's a shame that we had a broken rear anti-roll bar in yesterday's qualifying session -- starting back in 14th made the race quite difficult. But our car was very good today, with my quickest lap almost a second better than in qualifying yesterday."

After passing four cars with a daring outside move in the first corner of the race, Beaulieu passed series veteran Tom Fogarty on the run up to corkscrew before the full-course caution. Beaulieu chased Lime Rock podium finisher Marc Breuers for the next 24 laps, with Dan Di Leo not far behind.

"I haven't been qualifying well so far this year," said Beaulieu. "You can make excuses probably in every case, but the bottom line is I need to improve my own performance in that respect. This series is so competitive with future CART and F1 drivers that you can't afford to give up anything in qualifying -- even a few tenths -- so that is definitely an area where I will be focusing."

The next CART Barber Dodge race is this weekend in Portland. Aside from racing in the upcoming Molson Indy rounds in Vancouver, Toronto, and Montreal, he hopes to soon confirm sponsorship for the entire 2002 season.

The first two rounds of the 2002 CART Barber Dodge season will air on SpeedChannel on June 23 and 28 respectively. For series results and info, click on www.barberdodge.com.

Josh Beaulieu, in only his second year of professional auto racing, has established himself among the next generation of Canada's racing stars. You can find out more about Josh's career by visiting his website www.joshbeaulieu.com.
