Carroll wins round ten as Rossiter nurses engine

Adam Carroll won round ten of the championship after resisting race-long pressure from James Rossiter. Carroll took the lead at the start and was never headed although Rossiter, who was suffering from engine problems, kept close behind the leader and threatened him several times towards the end of the race.

Rossiter lost his pole position with a slow start and he tried in vain to move over and block Carroll who had started alongside him. Lucas Di Grassi held on to third with Will Power fourth and Piquet close behind in fifth.

The leading pair quickly pulled away from Di Grassi while Piquet was all over the back of Power trying to pass as quickly as possible and keep the leaders in touch. Piquet missed a gear along the pit straight on lap three and had to defend hard from Danny Watts who tried to go around the outside, costing him vital seconds.

Rossiter kept within a second of Carroll but on the fourth lap he received warning signals that his engine had developed a problem. He decided to drive conservatively by maximising the tow from Carroll along the fast sections of the circuit and using this technique he was able to keep in touch with Carroll.

Di Grassi, in third, was awarded a drive through penalty for a jump start and this dropped him down to seventh place. The Brazilian driver then received a subsequent one second penalty for speeding in the pitlane while serving his first penalty.

Piquet, now if fourth, had closed up on the back of Power and put the third-placed driver under huge pressure but to no avail. Rossiter too had closed up on his charge but was not able to get alongside and Carroll crossed the line to win by half a second.

Piquet's two wins and one fourth place turned a seventeen point deficit in the championship into a twenty-one point lead over Rossiter. Carroll moved up from eighth to third just seven points behind Rossiter eleven points ahead of Power whose two podiums helped to keep him in fourth place.
