Alan van der Merwe further extended his championship lead with a convincing victory in round six of the British Formula Three Championship. The South African driver qualified in pole position, led every lap and set the fastest lap time on the way to his fourth win of the season.

"It was nice to win after the first result, which I wasn't too happy with" said van der Merwe, who had made a bad start in the first race. He made a good start in this race though and was unchallenged throughout.

Van der Merwe regained his familiar place at the front during qualifying, putting his Carlin on pole position. Race one winner Will Davison lined up second ahead of Richard Antinucci and Jamie Green.

Van der Merwe made a good getaway from the grid and quickly pulled away from the pack. Davison also got away well but Antinucci fell into the clutches of Green and dropped back a place.

Davison's race ended soon afterwards though. He ran wide on and caught a course marker with his tyre, causing terminal damage to his suspension. "It's not a great way to finish a pretty good weekend," he concluded.

This left Green one second behind leader van der Merwe with Antinucci in third and Keohane in fourth.

On lap three Fauzy Fairuz and Clivio Piccione collided and brought out the safety car for four laps, reducing van der Merwe' s lead back to zero.

At the restart all the drivers maintained their positions and van der Merwe pulled away gradually, increasing his lead by about half a second per lap. Green, Antinucci and Keohane all pulled away from each other two. Austin, in fifth, was under late pressure from Bremer in sixth, but successfully held his position.

Van der Merwe was untroubled for the rest of the race, passing backmarker Alex Pozzobon without a problem, and crossed the line 3.5 seconds ahead of Green.
