F4 US champion Das signs with Carlin in BRDC F3
Reigning US Formula 4 champion Cameron Das will make a full-time move to Europe this year, competing in the BRDC Formula 3 championship.
The 16-year-old will reunite with top British squad Carlin, with whom he competed in the one-off Autumn Trophy round at Snetterton last year, finishing seventh.
Baltimore-born Das, who took nine wins in the inaugural F4 US series, also took part in 12 USF2000 races, with a best result of eighth in Toronto.
He said: "British Formula 3 feels like the natural next step in my racing development. I've already had a chance to see Carlin in action and I couldn't be more excited to spend the 2017 season with them.
"I really appreciate the support from my sponsor Autobahn Indoor Speedway and other partners for allowing me to embark on this incredible opportunity. I cannot wait for the first race weekend."
Team boss Trevor Carlin added: "It’s great news to have Cameron joining us for the 2017 season. His stats speak for themselves.
"It takes a lot for a driver to dominate any part of the season in the way that Cameron did with US Formula 4 last year, both physically and mentally, so we’re looking forward to welcoming him to the team.
"He has already been testing with us and working well with his teammates [James Pull and Enaam Ahmed] so we’re certainly looking forward to seeing what we can achieve together in 2017."
Das becomes the seventh driver to be confirmed on the 2017 grid.
Besides the three Carlin racers, Fortec has announced Britain’s Ben Hingeley and Denmark’s Nicolai Kjaergaard, while Hillspeed has Brit Jordan Cane and American Chase Owen in its team.
