Positive test for Sweeney Lola-Dome at Pembrey.

Sweeney Racing conducted an exhaustive four-day test at Pembrey in South Wales this week in an effort to learn more about the potential of the Lola- Dome F106/03 that will compete in the British Formula Three Championship this season.

With idyllic weather conditions throughout the test, both the Sweeney team and the Lola engineers who attended expressed their satisfaction with over 350 trouble free and highly productive laps of the 1.456-mile track.

Michael Keohane and Adam Carroll who will both represent Sweeney Racing Lola-Dome this year were very encouraged with what was the first consistent dry running that the car's have had so far in pre-season testing. "Both Sweeney and Lola Cars are working very hard to ensure we continue to move forward as we are at the moment," said former F3 race winner Keohane. "The car is feeling better and quicker all the time and responds extremely well to set up changes. We have to keep our feet on the ground but as a team we are working well and looking forward to the first race."

Ulsterman Adam Carroll, who drove the second of the F106/03 chassis at the test, was also encouraged by his first serious laps in the car. "We have come a long way in the last few days with the car," said the 2002 Scholarship Class champion. "The perfect conditions really helped and generally enabled us to get to know more about the car without the distraction of a lot of other cars on the track."

Sweeney Racing team manager Roly Vincini echoed his driver's thoughts by saying. "There is definitely more to come but we improved the balance and base set-up of the car throughout and saw that it was very predictable and has a lot of potential to exploit."

Lola are returning to the F3 arena for the first time since 1979 and supported the test with three senior engineers, one of whom was Chief Engineer - Julian Cooper, who commented. "It was essentially the first real test that we could get a good base set-up and we managed to do that quickly and then use new tyres for a series of quick laps. The test also acted as a consolidating the excellent working relationship that Lola Cars have developed with Sweeney Racing since the announcement that they would be the first team to race the Lola-Dome."

Formula Three project co-ordinator Adam Airey was also upbeat after the test, saying: "We had the team's Dallara there (driven by Venezuelan Ernesto Viso) as a benchmark and that gave us very favourable results. We are very pleased with the traction and turn-in of the car and how efficiently we found the fastest set-up."

Sweeney Racing head to Donington Park tomorrow for a full days running with both Lola-Dome's before attending the FOTA test at Snetterton next Tuesday.
