Barton Mawer Hoping to Restore National Sporting Pride
After a week that Australian sports fans would rather forget, New South Welshman Barton Mawer is hoping to give them something to cheer about at the penultimate round of the British Formula 3 International Series at Mondello Park.
In this his first trip to Ireland, Barton is hoping to return to the dominate form in the National Class Championship that he had enjoyed for most of the series. A run of bad luck in recent races has seen him drop to second place in the Championship, but he was able to bounce back with a podium finish in the previous round at the Nurburging. Barton is confident that he and his team T-Sport will be able to perform well this weekend at Mondello, a track that looks set to favour their car set up.
"Mondello is a much smaller and bumpier track than the Formula 1 tracks that we have visited recently like the Nurburgring and Silverstone. It looks to be similar to tracks like Knockhill and Castle Combe where we have been quick this year. Hopefully we will be celebrating with a Guinness on Sunday afternoon!"
