CLARKE ON PODIUM AGAIN
Nurburgring, 3rd September 2005: Dan Clarke notched up another podium finish in the latest round of the British Formula 3 International Series at the European Grand Prix circuit of Nurburgring in Germany. Dan took his Raikkonen Robertson Racing Dallara-Mugen Honda to third place from a front-row start, some consolation for his bad luck in the first race, in which he was taken out at the first corner and was forced to fight back to ninth position.
Clarke qualified fifth for race one and second for race two as he kept up his challenge for third in the British F3 points. He made a good start to race one, but was then caught up with second and fourth qualifiers Marko Asmer and Mike Conway at the first corner. Asmer missed his braking and drove into the back of both of us," said Dan. The clerk of the course said it was just a racing incident, but it meant that I rejoined dead last. I worked my back to ninth in the 25-car field - the only consolation is that they'll probably use loads of footage from my car in the TV coverage because that was the exciting bit!"
Clarke finished hard on the heels of eighth-placed Christian Bakkerud: Another lap and I'd have had him. In the second race, Dan and fellow front-row starter Bruno Senna were both beaten into the first corner by third qualifier Alvaro Parente, whose subsequent win enabled him to clinch the title.
"That was probably a more disappointing race actually, because we had the pace to win. When you're on the front row it's down to whoever gets the best start. I rolled a bit before the start and then hesitated and Alvaro got a really good start and he was away. That was the end of the race really."
From then on Clarke pursued Parente and Senna as the lead trio pulled comfortably clear of fourth-placed Conway. Next round of the championship is at the tight, twisty Mondello Park circuit in Ireland before the series wraps up back at Silverstone in October.
