DIFFICULT START FOR A SWEET END IN SNETTERTON FOR FRANKIE
A warm welcome to the summer kicks off with the F3 British Championship race weekend in Snetterton for the fourth round of the 2007 series. With the difficult previous race in Bucharest far behind, a new day was at hand for Frankie who had to dig deep and prove to himself that he was still the best of the best. The weekend started off spectacularly for Frankie who with his #39 Performance Teams' car, blitzed the first free practises with one of the fastest times this year. However, Frankie was struck again with terrible luck when an unexpected leak of pressure in his 2 litre Honda engine hampered his Saturday qualifying session, putting him firmly at the back of the grid. As disappointed as Frankie was, he was looking forward to the challenge the day ahead because he knows that anything can happen in a race. For him, there is no place to go but up.
The Sunday race day was as expected and handled very professionally and maturely by the Chinese racer. His goals were clear for the podium and Frankie was willing to fight for it. The first race, Frankie fought his way back to fourth and the second race, achieved his goal by coming second in the national class. His speed was clear when he also set the fastest lap of the race in the National Class. It is clear that without Frankie's engine trouble, his weekend would have been much different.
Frankie still leads the National Class but now shares the lead with the Mexican racer Perez. It is going to be a tough fight but Frankie is sure to show what he is made of in the races to come. This year's competition level is already at the extreme. With already four different race winners, this year is going to be as exciting as ever. The F3 National Class counts for 12 cars, representing 7 nations that are fighting to be the best.
Frankie, "We came to Snetterton sure about our potential especially after the positive tests 3 weeks ago but as ever, the race results are different then as we expected. Such is the problem with motorsports. The engine's problem on Saturday dampened the all weekend but despite that I have to thank the team for working very hard to solve the problem. On both Sunday races I gave my best not to loose the leadership of the Championship and if I'm still at the top means that our potential is really good. Starting from the back is always very difficult; but overall I'm happy with the final result. I showed that in normal conditions I'm very fast. I got the overall best lap time record for the National class car during the weekend and we hope to be luckier for the next event but in motor sport, mechanical failure are part of the game.
The next event will be held at the end of June in the famous F1 race track of Monza in Italy for the second abroad race of the F3 UK Series; an important experience for Frankie in his first visit in the fastest track of the world.
