Top British drive for young Aussie racer and Grand Prix Ambassador Will Davison.
New Foster's Australian Grand Prix ambassador Will Davison has scored a prized international drive for 2003.
Davison, 20, of Melbourne, will race in the British Formula Three Championship for Alan Docking, the renowned expatriate Australian open-wheeler team owner in England who has seen 30 per cent of his "pupils" graduate to Formula One.
Winner of the Alan Jones Trophy for his runaway victories in the Formula Ford races at the 2001 Australian Grand Prix, Davison proceeded to take that category's national title that year.
Last year he ventured overseas, finishing fourth in the British Formula Renault Championship -- an excellent feat against rivals who already knew the British tracks well.
By joining Docking's team he hopes to follow in the footsteps of fellow Australian driver Mark Webber by advancing all the way to F1.
"I'm really going to go for it in the British F3 Championship," Davison said.
"Going overseas was a big step last year, and going back this time to an even more competitive series is obviously more important again."
Webber was fourth in the British F3 Championship for Docking in 1997, and Sydney racer James Courtney was second last year (for Carlin Motorsport) to Docking's English driver Robbie Kerr. Among the great names to have won the title are Ayrton Senna, Mika Hakkinen and Rubens Barrichello.
Davison will head to Britain in mid-February to begin testing his new Dallara Mugen Honda car but hopes to be home for the Foster's Australian Grand Prix at Melbourne's Albert Park on March 6-9 before his racing commitments start in early April.
Davison - grandson of Lex Davison, a four-time winner of the Australian GP long before it became an F1 world championship race - was named an Australian GP ambassador late last year.
