Date Revision For Castle Combe SuperBike Grand National

With the recent changes to the British Superbike Championship calendar, Castle Combe Circuit has decided to bring forward the date for the second annual Superbike Grand National Meeting to Saturday 30th and Sunday 31st July 2005.

Originally scheduled to round off the season after the end of the hectic BSB season on October 1st and 2nd, the change was deemed necessary given the various alterations to the Moto GP series and which now means that BSB2005 does not finish until October 9th.

"We didn't think it fair nor feasible to expect teams to compete at a non-championship event the week before the final round of the championship and by moving to a mid summer date, we can perhaps benefit from decent weather. Not only that but the new date is right in the middle of a six week break in the BSB series so it's an ideal opportunity for some teams to benefit from some extra track time" said the circuit's Marketing Director Mr Rodney Gooch.

The event follows on from the success of the West Country's first major Superbike meeting last September when almost 30,000 race fans enjoyed a packed race programme with the highlight Superbike invitation races won by Sean Emmett on the ETI Ducati.

The circuit management are in the process of talking to all the BSB teams to encourage a strong entry and Chairman of Castle Combe Circuit, Mr Howard Strawford commented:

"It was such a great weekend that the pressure to run again from the trade, from our race fans and from many of the competitors was overwhelming".

A generous prize fund is on offer including separate awards for the Privateers Cup and also for the non-factory independent teams which should boost entries. The meeting will be run by the New Era Motorcycle Club with a full championship support programme.
