MORE SOLID RESULTS FOR TOM AND OLLIE AT MALLORY
Bridewell Brothers Inside Top Ten Yet Again
Brothers Tommy and Ollie Bridewell continued their superb start to the 2005 season with another pair of mature rides which netted them more points at round three of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship meeting held at Mallory Park at the weekend.
From Etchilhampton near Devizes in Wiltshire, the teenagers were placed in the top ten once again of both the Virgin Mobile Cup and the Metzeler Racetec National Superstock Championship as they continued their improvements in their respective classes in what was an incident packed day at the Leicestershire track.
16 year old Tommy qualified the Wayside Racing Yamaha R6 in a season best eighth place and in the televised Virgin Mobile Cup race; he battled his way to sixth at the chequered flag, just ten seconds down on the eventual race winner Brendan Roberts.
"I'm well chuffed with that result and glad that we are making progress in the right direction. I had a race plan and that was to keep out of trouble on the opening lap and it worked as there were a few fallers. The pace car intervention helped me gain any time I'd lost on the opening lap and I'd have liked to have stayed with the leaders a little longer but now I can't wait for Oulton Park next weekend" said Tommy who moved up to eighth place in the championship as a result.
Meanwhile, elder brother Ollie also improved on his previous two performances at Brands Hatch and Thruxton by bringing the Vivaldi Kawasaki home in ninth after another battle with more experienced riders.
Despite a row four start, the 19 year old saw off a challenge of at least half a dozen other riders as he too moved into eighth place in the series standings after another incident-hit race.
"I really wanted to be higher but I can't complain as it was another consistent points finish which has moved me into the top ten of the championship. It was certainly an improvement on qualifying and now I feel I have the confidence to move up a step and I'm sure I can be on the podium before too long" said the rider who finished runner up in the Virgin Mobile Yamaha R6 Cup of last season.
The next round sees the brothers Bridewell in action at Oulton Park in Cheshire over this forthcoming Bank Holiday weekend (May 1st and 2nd)
