San Diego, CA., (November 17, 2002) - Freestyle made a return trip to The San Diego Sports Arena this time crowning a rookie champion both nights. Adam "The Rookie" Jones swept both nights to take home his first two IFMA Freestyle Motocross wins in sunny San Diego.
Saturday Adam Jones prevailed but not after fending off impressive run from top qualifier Andy Jones. In the final round Robert Distler held the hot seat for 3 riders pulling off tricks that he has just added to his arsenal like the "base jump" and "a no footed can to saran to no-hander-lander". When the dust settled Adam "The Rookie" Jones was left holding the trophy and taking home the cash he has been working for since his first appearance on the IFMA scene last winter in Salt Lake City.
Sunday Andy Jones - another rookie battling for his first win - was again the best qualifier, but came up short in his efforts as Sunday night saw Saturdays top three riders "pinning" the RPM's and going for all the glory. Adam Jones proved that soon his nickname "The Rookie" will be disappearing. Andy Jones road hard and left it all out there finishing second just three tenths back. Robert "Little Dis" Distler again wowed the crowd with his ability to combine tricks and land with no hands on the handlebars. Sunday - like Saturday - Adam Jones was the champ.
