Warrington driver Daniel Dunbabin was in superlative form as he finished an impressive 2nd in class A6 and 4th overall in F2 on the Wyedean Rally held on Saturday.

Partnered by twin brother Clive, the 24-year-old Peugeot 106 GTi Challenge contender was using the Forest of Dean based event to test his brand new car in readiness for a tough season ahead in the super competitive one make championship.

Despite having never driven the car before the event started, the talented Cheshire man was soon setting top times within his class - even though the event was being used primarily as a test day to gauge the car's performance.

Pre-event rain had left the forest roads in a slippery state, but the Michelin tyres Daniel was using performed superbly in the greasy stages, enabling the youngster to get straight on the pace without taking any risks at all:

"The car was very easy to drive quickly from the start. We changed the suspension and geometry settings to suit my driving style throughout the day, but we were delighted with the performance of the car on its first event. We didn't have one problem all day, which is a testimony to the way the car has been built by the team."

With the 106 GTi championship getting underway on the Wrexham Rally, March 10th, the brothers have also planned to test the car on the forthcoming Winter Stages Rally, at the renowned Sweet Lamb testing complex in the heart of the Mid Wales forests. The stages there are very similar to the stages used on the opening round of the 106's championship, also held in Mid Wales.

Aside from being able to follow Daniel and Clive's exploits on the stages, rally fans will also be able to keep informed by logging onto the duo's website at www.dunbabin.com where you can find out the latest information and download pictures as the year unfolds.
