Nail biting finish for Swann on Manx
Revolution Wheels backed Rob Swann narrowly missed out on a podium position in a last stage shoot out that saw the Geoff Jones Motorsport run Subaru Impreza finish a mere 0.6 seconds behind the third placed car of Wyn Humphries at the end of the 3 day long Rally Isle of Man last weekend.
Bishop Stortford based Rob, co-driven by Pwllheli resident Darren Garrod, eased into the rally, an event notorious for being unforgiving to foolhardy drivers and ended the opening leg eight amongst the British Championship contenders.
A big push on Day 2 as he gained confidence in the car, saw Rob steadily climb the leader board and he was pleased to end the day inside the top 10 overall and 5th amongst the BRC registered drivers.
Saturday saw drivers throughout the leaderboard caught out by the changeable conditions but, apart from a spin on a hairpin Rob was flying and entering the last stage was embroiled in a fierce fight for the final podium position. Despite pushing as hard as he dared Rob missed out by slimmest of margins but was still more than happy with his weekend.
If you had offered me 4th in the BRC on Thursday I'd have taken it with both hands-- but third was oh so close! The car bogged down coming out of the very last corner and you have to wonder if I lost half a second there-- what a great weekend! The car was faultless and both Darren and I had a great time.
The second Revolution Wheels supported car, that of Welshman David Meredith, experienced a slightly more mixed weekend. A lack of pre event testing hampered him early on but once the car was dialled in the 2006 'stars of the future' champion pushed hard. A minor off followed by a stubborn starter motor cost him a lot of time on Day 2 but David eventually finished 13th in the British Rally Championship after constantly setting top 10 class times.
Both crews now have just over a month to prepare for the fourth round of the championship, the Ulster Rally. Based in Armagh the Ulster Rally takes place from the 31st August to the 1st of September.
