Beebe pleased despite blown engine

Reigning R3 British Rally Champion Matt Beebe experienced the cruel hand of fate on last weekends Philip White Tyres Ulster Rally when his MG ZR160 suffered a dramatic engine failure on the penultimate stage of the 2 day rally whilst dominating his class. Despite this bad luck Matt was extremely pleased with his performance on the notoriously tricky event.

Matt, who had not had the best of runs on last years Ulster Rally, entered the weekend just aiming for a finish, but strong runs throughout Friday night saw the m3motorsport run MG lying ninth overall in the BRC and leading his class by over a minute. Saturday morning saw the defending champion extend his lead as the conditions worsened. The afternoon stages saw Matt hampered by a problem with the rear end of his car, making the car entertaining to drive!

With a lead of well over two minutes Matt was aiming to nurture the car to the finish but the cruel hand of fate had other ideas. All of Matt's hard work was negated when the engine expired without warning with a mere 9 competitive stage miles left to run. The crew had no option but to take advantage of super rally to pick up a handful of championship points.

I'm absolutely gutted with the engine failure. And yet I am still really pleased with the weekend! Friday night went so well. The new gas discharged PIAA spotlights made the night stages look like daytime! We were not pushing this weekend and yet were having such a good run. The car was faultless right up until the big bang.

It is really frustrating but there is no point crying over spilt milk. That engine has done us good and says a lot about British engineering!

m3motorsport, who were assisted by both North Warwickshire and Hinckley College and the local Omagh College over the weekend, will now strip apart the engine to try and establish what went wrong, but with the penultimate round of the championship, the International Rally of Yorkshire, only 5 weeks away the team faces a race against time to be ready.
