Trackrod Challenge Next for Beebe

Nuneaton based Matt Beebe heads to the penultimate round of the 2006 Tesco 99 Octane MSA British Rally Championship tied for the lead of class R3, and admits that he is relishing the opportunity to get back onto gravel, a surface he feels more at home on.

After a brace of tricky tarmac rallies that netted 2 wins and a second place, the service technician has admitted that he was surprised at his own pace on the black stuff and attributes part of that to an appearance on the non-championship Rally of the Midlands, a 3 day 100 mile tarmac rally that saw Matt and his co-drive Gemma Price bring their little MG ZR160 home in an incredible 4th overall. This confidence boost, coupled with mechanical problems for his championship rival Justin Dale, saw Matt take two wins on the trot.

However a recent meeting with a wall on the Phillip White Ulster Rally saw both Matts confidence, and the front end of his little MG, take a bit of a battering. Fortunately, thanks to the hard work of M3 Motorsport and super rally rules, the NWHC & PIAA supported car was still able to be classified a finisher and thus picked up valuable points.

All this means that Matt heads to Round 4 tied on points with 2002 British S1600 champion Justin Dale. Although Justin had the advantage on Matt on the season opening Pirelli Rally, the only previous time this year that the two had competed against each other on gravel, Matt is confident that his previous experience of the Yorkshire Forests (he won his class on the Trackrod Rally last year on his way to winning the Stars of the Future Championship!) and additional experience of the car, along with the confidence gained in his Hankook tyres will assist him in narrowing the gap between the two of them.

I much prefer gravel to tarmac and have been very happy with my performances on tar this year but now I'm really looking forward to the Trackrod Rally. I went well there last year and hopefully my little MG's power deficit won't be too much of a handicap this weekend.

With the 2006 International Rally of Yorkshire taking in some of the true classics of British Rallying, such as Dalby and Cropton Forests, it presents a true challenge to all the drivers.

The rally starts from Pickering at 9am on Saturday 7th October 2006 and incorporates 108 stage miles before the surviving cars return to the finish later in the afternoon.
