Horsey and Matovu enjoy solid run on British debut

Kenyan born Peter Horsey and his Tanzanian based co-driver Moses Matovu enjoyed a solid run on their first ever truly International Rally and despite no opportunity to test their new Mitsubishi Evo X, the pair ended the Bulldog International Rally of North Wales 16th overall and fourth in the Mitsubishi Evo Challenge.

Peter, the reigning African Pirelli Star Drive recipient, was using the rally, the opening round of the 2010 Dulux Trade MSA British Rally Championship, in order to gain mileage ahead of his six round programme in the FIA World Rally Championship and enjoyed his first venture into the Welsh forests. Faced with tricky road conditions as overnight rain made the morning stages slippery, the pair took a steady approach to the opening loop, quickly acclimatising to their new car. Peter had only collected his new Mitsubishi Evo X the day before the rally but after some minor setup changes found the car to his liking and with his confidence building was noticeably quicker on the second run through the forests.

Peter; great day, it was a really massive learning curve! The stages were just awesome but we still have some work to do on our pacenotes. We just wanted a finish today and that is exactly what we achieved!

Moses; I'm freezing, but really happy with how the rally went! We improved massively on our second run through the stages, improving by 2 seconds per kilometre on each stage! We have learnt so much today and really enjoyed our first rally in the Evo X!

Peter and Moses will now fly straight back to Kenya to begin preparations for the second round of the FIA African Rally Championship, the KCB Safari Rally. This event, which was formerly a round of the World Rally Championship, is still renowned as one of the toughest rallies in the world.
