`Richard Burns returns to his roots at BRC shakedown'
Sunday April 7th 2002, Sweet Lamb - Mid Wales
Former Peugeot Challenge winner, 1993 British Rally Champion and current World Rally Champion, Richard Burns will appear at the Pirelli British Rally Championship pre-season shakedown event at Sweet Lamb, mid-Wales on Sunday 7 April 2002. Spectators will be most welcome, and the action will start at 11am.
Peugeot 206 Super 1600 Works drivers, Justin Dale and 2001 Super 106 Cup winner Rory Galligan, will be at the shakedown with their co-drivers as they test for the first time as a team. Also at the shakedown will be two crews from the Peugeot 206 Super Cup, as the cup will be running this season at six of the eight BRC rounds.
"We will be using a 1.8-mile gravel special stage, reversed in the afternoon," commented PBRC manager Mark Taylor. "Sweet Lamb is an ideal location for an event like this. There's plenty of car parking space as well as safe viewing areas, and we're hoping that as many members of the public as possible will come to see the top Super 1600, Production and World Rally cars being put through their paces. We're also using it as a training day for our unsung heroes - the marshals.
We'll be laying on toilet facilities and food and drink stalls, and it will be a good opportunity for team sponsors to entertain guests and introduce them to the Championship. We want to give the public a chance to meet the drivers and have a day to remember as well as offering the teams a chance to test their cars and meet fellow competitors and officials."
Mick Linford, Motorsport Manager Peugeot Sport UK commented; "It's fantastic that Richard Burns and Robert Reid will be attending the British Rally shakedown. With Richard and Robert starting out in the early 90s competing in the Peugeot Challenge, it is encouraging for him to attend and show his support to the current Super 206 Cup competitors. He firmly believes this to be the best route to the top."
The proposed timetable will be as follows:-
11.00: Stage opens. Six demonstration runs for each car
12.30: Lunch break. Meet the crews. Autograph signing and prize draw
13.30: Prize draw rides
14.00: Stage reversed. Five more runs for each car
14.30: Media/driver Q&A with World Rally Champion Richard Burns
15.30: Stage closes and Richard Burns departs
