2010 Dulux Trade MSA British Rally Championship awards ceremony

Last weekend's 2010 Dulux Trade MSA British Rally Championship annual awards ceremony not only honoured overall and class winners of the main series, but the one-make series and support championship, the BRC Challenge, prize winners collected their silverware at the black-tie event.

As well as the documented trophies and prizes were several discretionary awards including the coveted title of Dulux Trade MSA British Rally Championship Rally of the Year. Instigated by championship manager Mark Taylor eight years ago, this award is decided by votes from a range of sources, including drivers, co-drivers and people who attend and work on each of the six rallies.

The trophy was taken to Northern Ireland for second consecutive year by the team from the Toddsleap.com Ulster Rally, the International section this year called Rally NI. Speaking after the awards ceremony, Rally NI Clerk of the Course, Michael Johnston commented:

"It's a great privilege to be able to bring the trophy back home to Antrim for another year and it's a fitting tribute to the hard work done by the many volunteers and the organising team who make the event happen each year."

Next of the discretionary awards was for Outstanding Performance in the 2010 Dulux Trade MSA British Rally Championship. The recipient of this handsome silver trophy has previously gone to drivers who may not have taken overall honours, but who have impressed during the season.

The surprised but delighted recipient this year was Elfyn Evans, who took the accolade by virtue of his stunning clean sweep of seven victories in the Kick Energy Fiesta SportTrophy.

Dulux Trade MSA British Ladies Rally Champion Molly Taylor took the International Rally Drivers' Club Most Improved award, a mathematical algorithm calculating the eventual recipient of Awards Ceremony tickets, a cheque for 0x00a3500 and the trophy which were presented by IRDC Chairman Shaun Martin.

Greenlight Television not only produced an excellent selection of video on the night, but Director and commentator Richard Nichols explained the reasoning behind their own award. Gwyndaf Evans took home a handsome plaque for being, "Professional, cheerful, entertaining and basically himself." said Nichols.

For the first year the Higgins Forest Experience Rally School offered an award to the championship, David Higgins sending his apologies as he was rallying in China. The one-to-one training days for both driver and co-driver went to Jason Pritchard and Robbie Durant and to Autosport Technology, the team selecting an appropriate crew from its stable. The sessions will be individually tailored to help with any aspect of the crew's personal development.

Pritchard and Durant also benefitted from Sunoco's sponsorship of the Dulux Trade MSA British Rally Championship Privateers Cup, as the crew added vouchers for Sunoco fuel in next year's series to the stack of class and overall trophies on the night.

Over sixty trophies graced the stage and nearly 250 people watched as the 2010 winners took their places in the history books as another season came to a close.
