Drivers from this season's Green Flag British Touring Car Championship are set to take centre stage in a series of adverts running as part of Green Flag's sponsorship of the TV highlights programme.
Touring car drivers, Anthony Reid (MG Sport), Dan Eaves (Team Halfords) and Paul O'Neill (VX Racing) all feature in scenes screened at the open and closing credits and at the advertising breaks of the highlights programme broadcast on ITV1. The first Green Flag BTCC highlights programme is aired on Saturday afternoon (April 26).
In the adverts, the drivers receive some extra help from Green Flag during the race. One scene has Eaves calling for Green Flag's assistance while stuck in the pits after his pit crew have drawn a blank. In another, VX Racing driver O'Neill is seen celebrating victory at the winner's podium only to see his pit crew ignore him to congratulate the Green Flag mechanic instead. Another scenario has MG Sport's Reid ignoring his pit crew to celebrate victory at the podium with the Green Flag mechanic.
Reid and O'Neill are also filmed in close-up at the starting line, but when the lights turn to green, it's the Green Flag truck that beats them both off the line.
Congratulating the drivers on their acting debuts, Nick Page, Green Flag's sponsorship manager said: "The drivers and teams were very patient on what was a very long day's filming at Silverstone, but they took to playing the part of drivers on screen like naturals, suggesting a career in acting after racing."
Commenting on his acting debut, he said: "As a racing driver it was strange to be asked by Green Flag to play myself in the adverts, but it was great fun and if it makes more people interested in the championship, it will have been worth it. Let's hope I won't need to call on their services too often."
Green Flag Motoring Assistance was confirmed as title sponsor of the British Touring Car Championship earlier this year in a two-year deal that includes sponsorship of the ITV highlights programme. The company is one of the UK's largest providers of rescue and recovery serving some 4million customers.
