Ford signs Steve Robertson

FORD has at last confirmed the identity of its second driver for this year's Auto Trader RAC Touring Car Championship - BTCC rookie Steve Robertson, the 1994 Indy Lights Champion.

And the man who duelled with him for the last works seat in the championship - Formula 3 ace Warren Hughes - has also been given a job, as official test driver for the team.

Said Robertson, 30: "I cannot say how thrilled and proud I am to be associated with Ford... I will do my best to live up to the responsibility. I am very excited at the opportunity to drive alongside Paul Radisich, from whom I know I will learn an awful lot."

Team principal Dick Bennetts said: "During testing, Steve proved his tremendous ability to produce quick lap times, and was especially impressive through fast corners."
